Looking for a location with a patriotic palette? Put on some red, white and blue, head to the foot of Main Street and before you know it you’ll be humming Yankee Doodle and rekindling your national pride. The Spirit of Peoria is truly one of Peoria’s most unique offerings. If you’ve never been or if it’s been awhile since your last trip, you really ought to go.
Jack and Abby went on their first sightseeing cruise over the 4th of July weekend. Sightseeing cruises are usually available on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The cruise lasts an hour and a half, which worked out great for the kids – long enough, but not too long. Highlights for them were the snack shop, watching the paddle wheel from the second deck, seeing the underside of the bridges we usually go over and visiting the wheelhouse to ask a million questions 🙂 The trip included a very informative narrative recorded by Brian “Fox” Ellis and Barry Cloyd – lots of Peoria/Illinois River facts and history that I did not know or had forgotten.
Big thanks to the captains that day for letting us visit the wheelhouse and patiently answering lots of questions from 3 year olds. You get lots of points for that. We’ll be back! And of course if you’d like to have your very own Spirit of Peoria photo shoot, I’d be happy to tag along. Click HERE to contact me!
